Fertility & IVF Support in Charleston, SC

Trying to conceive can be an emotional and physically demanding journey, especially when it isn't happening as easily as you'd hoped.

You may be tracking every part of your cycle, studying lab results, timing intercourse, navigating medications, or going through IUI or IVF. There can be a lot of information to make sense of and a lot of uncertainty along the way.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can provide personalized support throughout your fertility journey, from trying to conceive naturally to working alongside a fertility specialist.

Acupuncture for fertility and IVF

Fertility acupuncture takes a whole-body approach. Rather than looking at fertility as one isolated system, we look at the patterns that may be affecting your overall health and reproductive cycle.

Your treatment may focus on supporting:

  • Menstrual cycle regularity

  • Ovulation and cycle tracking

  • Stress and nervous system regulation

  • Sleep and energy

  • Digestion and nutrient absorption

  • Blood flow and circulation

  • Hormonal health

  • Preparation for IUI or IVF

  • Support during fertility treatment

  • Overall physical and emotional well-being

Acupuncture can be used alongside conventional fertility care and is not a replacement for your reproductive endocrinologist or other medical providers.

Your cycle tells a story

In Chinese medicine, different patterns can correspond to different phases of the menstrual cycle.

Rather than treating every patient with the same “fertility acupuncture protocol,” we look at what your body is doing throughout the cycle and tailor treatment accordingly.

Your symptoms, menstrual history, basal body temperature, cervical signs, and other cycle information can all provide useful pieces of the picture.

We may also review information you're already collecting through tools such as Mira, Oura Ring, or BBT charting, along with relevant laboratory results from your fertility care.

These aren't used in isolation. They're another way to understand your individual cycle and connect the information you're already gathering with the larger picture of your health.

Chinese medicine patterns and fertility

Chinese medicine recognizes different patterns that can affect the menstrual cycle and reproductive health.

Two people can have the same fertility diagnosis but very different symptoms, cycles, digestion, energy, sleep, or stress levels. Their acupuncture treatments may therefore look completely different.

Your treatment is based on your individual Chinese medicine pattern, your cycle, your health history, and where you are in your fertility journey.

Supporting you through IVF

IVF can involve medications, procedures, appointments, lab work, and a lot of waiting.

Acupuncture can be incorporated alongside your fertility treatment to support your overall well-being throughout the process.

Treatment may be used during different stages of an IVF cycle, depending on your individual treatment plan and the recommendations of your fertility team.

The goal isn't to replace the medical side of IVF. It's to give your body and nervous system additional support while you're going through it.

Planning your acupuncture care around IVF

If you're preparing for an embryo transfer, we ideally like to begin acupuncture about three months before your transfer. This gives us time to work together consistently and support your overall health, menstrual cycle, stress levels, sleep, digestion, and other factors that may be relevant to your care.

For many patients, this means weekly acupuncture treatments for approximately three months leading up to the transfer, with your treatment plan adjusted as you move through your fertility treatment.

We also schedule treatments specifically around important milestones in your IVF cycle. When possible, we plan appointments on or around the day of egg retrieval and on or around the day of embryo transfer to provide additional support during these key points in the process.

Every IVF timeline is different, so your treatment schedule will be coordinated with your fertility treatment plan and adjusted as needed.

Fertility care that looks at the whole picture

Fertility can be about much more than reproductive organs and hormone levels.

Your sleep, digestion, stress, energy, nutrition, menstrual cycle, and overall health can all be important pieces of your care.

At Balance Acupuncture, we take the time to understand those pieces and create a treatment plan around you.

You don't have to navigate all of the information alone.
