Pain Relief & Recovery
Personalized care to help you move, heal, and feel better.
Pain can change much more than the part of your body that hurts. It can affect how you move, sleep, work, exercise, and go about your day.
A new injury can be frustrating enough. When pain sticks around or keeps coming back, it can start to change what you do, how you move, and even how you think about your body.
Acupuncture can be part of an effective approach to pain relief, recovery, and long-term pain management. At Balance, we look at your specific pain and the bigger picture around it so we can understand what may be contributing to it and how it’s affecting your life.

Pain and Your Nervous System
Pain that lasts for months or years doesn’t always mean something is still being damaged. Over time, the nervous system can become more sensitive to signals from the body. This is sometimes called central sensitization or nervous system sensitization.
Think of it like an alarm system that has become a little too sensitive. Pain can continue after an original injury has healed, or movements and sensations that once felt normal can start to feel painful.
That doesn’t mean your pain isn’t real. It means your nervous system has become part of the pain experience.
Acupuncture may help regulate the nervous system and the way your body responds to pain. Treatment can also address muscle tension, mobility, sleep, stress, and other factors that may influence how you experience pain.
When Pain and Stress Become a Cycle
Pain and stress can feed into each other.
Pain can make it harder to sleep, exercise, relax, or concentrate. Poor sleep and ongoing stress can then make your nervous system more reactive and pain harder to manage.
That’s why we don’t look at pain in isolation. Your sleep, stress, energy, digestion, activity level, previous injuries, and overall health can all give us useful information about what’s happening.
Your Acupuncture Care
Your first visit gives us time to understand how your pain started, what it feels like, what you’ve tried, and what you’d like to get back to doing.
Treatment may include acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, bodywork, and other supportive therapies, depending on what makes sense for you.
For ongoing pain, consistent treatment is often important. We may recommend weekly visits initially and adjust the frequency as your symptoms change and your body responds.
There isn’t a standard treatment for “back pain,” “knee pain,” or “chronic pain.” We look at your individual symptoms and patterns and adjust your care as you progress.
More Than Just Pain Relief
Feeling better matters, but so does what feeling better allows you to do.
You want to return to exercise, sleep without constantly thinking about pain, get through your workday more comfortably, or simply stop planning your life around your symptoms.
Our goal is to help you support recovery, understand your body, and get back to the things that matter to you.
